My
first car was a 1961
Ford Falcon which I bought for $250 in 1969. Since then it's seen many
changes as well as miles (over 200,000). I replaced the original 170cid
6-banger with a 200 in 1972 and then a 302 in 1985. A C4 accompanied the
302. Not long after that I put in a differential and front suspension
from a 1964 V8
Comet to handle the extra weight and power of the V8.
The original silver
paint
had already been covered with a bad blue one when I got it, so I had it
painted a royal metallic blue
shortly after I got it. It was beautiful! But like a typical careless
teenager, I didn't take care of it and it started fading in the hot
California sun. Since then it's been painted twice more, blue of course.
I recovered the padded dash myself and
recently had the seats and side panels recovered. There's
more to be done inside but the exterior is very badly in need of restoration
since living in such places as Nebraska
and Massachusetts has played havoc with the 40+ year old sheet metal,
especially the quarters. But without the
facilities or know-how to do it
myself,
it'll just have to wait until I can afford
to have a body shop do it. Until then, it'll only get driven in dry weather.
But it's my "baby" so I don't have any plans to give it up!

In
2003 our Falcon Family increased
by one. You know how people come home from
vacation with a t-shirt, mug,
painting or other types of mementos? Not me! I came home with a 1965 4-door
Falcon Futura! It isn't perfect, but it won't
take
much to get close. So now I have two birds to occupy my time, as
if I needed something else! But it's a
welcome addition to the fold and it's been
nice to have 4 doors so that passengers
have
easy access to the rear seat. And now I
have an example of 2 of the 3 Falcon body styles!
In July 2004, my
local chapter of the
Falcon
Club of America, hosted the 2004 National Falcon
Convention. It was a great time and there were over 200 Falcons from all
over the US, Canada and Australia, including a couple
of very rare birds!
On Memorial Day weekend of 2005 we went to the
St. Louis Regional. Both the weather
and the 42 Falcons there were beautiful!
In July 2006 we went to the
National Falcon Convention in Indianapolis.
We had a great time riding around the Speedway!
